Slice Mob invaded Olde World Pizza today… and we did some damage. 🍕

I decided to go with two complete extremes because apparently moderation isn’t really my thing when it comes to pizza.

First up was the plain sauce pie. No cheese. No toppings. Nothing to hide behind. Just sauce and crust.

And I loved it.

Simple, but simple done right. The sauce had a great balance. Tomato forward, nice seasoning, a little sweetness and acidity playing together, all sitting on a thin, crisp, nicely charred base. Sometimes you don’t need 14 toppings fighting for attention. Sauce. Dough. Heat. Done.

Of course, after saying that… I ordered the Italian Combo, which apparently took the “14 toppings” comment personally. 😂

This thing was LOADED. Smoky bacon that you could actually smell as you lifted the slice to your mouth. Sausage, pepperoni, mushrooms, garlic, peppers, onions… basically the opposite of the sauce pie in every possible way.

And somehow it worked. Big flavors, lots going on, but everything still came together. Definitely a showstopper.

The new owners also treated the Slice Mob to some of their fall specials.

We tried a fall salad with apples and a variety of vegetables, and a fall pizza with Brussels sprouts, goat cheese and butternut squash. Lots of different flavors and textures going on. Definitely not your basic pepperoni pizza.

What I really like about what they’re doing here is they didn’t come in and try to reinvent a place that already had history. They kept that old-school Olde World feel, but they’re starting to mix in some chef-inspired creations of their own.

And then came the experiment…

Broccoli rabe, sausage and lemon.

Now THAT combination got my attention. The bitterness of the broccoli rabe, richness of the sausage and that hit of lemon makes a ton of sense together. They were the first to tell us it’s still a work in progress and they’re dialing in the lemon. But the bones of this pizza are really good. I want another crack at this one when they finish playing with it.

Great afternoon with the Slice Mob. Great food, great service and a crew willing to have some fun with pizza while still respecting what made the place what it is.

Olde World Pizza… officially Slice Mob approved. 🍕👊
